CALYPTECH’S Frame Relay Interface Adaptor (DS3 to HSSI) is deployed by Telstra

MELBOURNE, Victoria -Telstra Corporation, Australia ’s leading telecommunications service provider, has deployed Calyptech’s Frame Relay Interface Adaptor (FRIA) to provide a seamless interface between legacy network equipment and Telstra's new IP centric core network.

The FRIA provides an adaption function between DS3 and HSSI type interfaces, and becomes a transparent 'bump in the wire' to allow Telstra's existing business customer base to transparently connect to the new IP network introduced as part of the company's network transformation. The FRIA integrates with the Network Management System.

Calyptech CEO John Maher was quoted as saying “The FRIA is a good example of an element that performs an essential 'glue' function, to ensure the smooth operation and transition of a network to take advantage of new technologies. Calyptech were able to identify all the requirements, including the interfaces necessary to integrate the new element seamlessly into Telstra's Network Management System, and deliver a solution to Telstra in an extremely aggressive timeframe. This effort was made possible through the substantial leverage of Calyptech's in house technology."

The FRIA is a 19 inch rack mounted, modular system. All modules are hot-pluggable, and a central controller card is configured to manage the rack, and interface to the Network Management System.
