Integrated Fixed Wireless Gateway Deployed in Rural Australia

31.December.2007

MEDIA RELEASE

CALYPTECH’S "Integrated Fixed Wireless Terminal" is deployed by Telstra - Telstra Corporation, Australia ’s leading telecommunications service provider, has deployed Calyptech’s Integrated Fixed Wireless Terminal (iFWT) to deliver Broadband and Telephone/FAX Services to its customers in Rural and Regional Australia.

Telstra chose to deploy the iFWT solution following an extensive evaluation process, with trials carried out around the Australian continent, in some of the most remote regions on the planet.

"Calyptech is very pleased to win this substantial deal. It demonstates Calyptech's capacity to develop solutions using its considerable design and manufacturing capability to deliver an extremely robust product to meet our customer requirements" stated John Maher, CEO of Calyptech. “The iFWT is a unique solution designed to deliver a Broadband Service with wireline ADSL2+ connectivity to the customer's premises, and wireless 3G connectivity to the Telstra NextG Network”.

Calyptech worked in cooperation with Ericsson, the provider of Telstra's NextG Network, to deliver and integrate a world first solution against extremely tight timelines.

“The iFWT allows remote management and service redundancy in remote Solar/Battery installations“ commented Tim Curnow, R&D Manager of Calyptech. "The installation can be up to 5km from the customer's home, essential in areas where wireless coverage may be weaker due to terrain or vegetation considerations. Telephone, Fax and Broadband data services are standard services delivered from the unit".

The benefits of the iFWT include its capability to drive long lead copper pairs, complicated copper cabling plant at the customer site, and the ability to withstand harsh environmental conditions in desert or polar deployments.

Offering POTS and broadband ADSL2 interfaces, the iFWT becomes a "mini-DLC/DSLAM" configuration connecting to the wireless network infrastructure. Multiple iFWT units are managed using a central server, offering automatic software upgrade, with alarm and monitoring facilities that can be easily integrated into the OSS.

The iFWT can be installed in external enclosures, attached to the side of buildings, or left standalone. The ability to drive long leads, means the iFWT can be located at a considerable distance from the customer
