Corporate History

Calyptech was founded in 2000 at the peak of a global technology boom, with the merging of three well established consulting firms, Silicon System Solutions, Centura Engineering and QWare, bringing together complementary management and technical expertise in high speed ASIC/FPGA design, advanced and high speed board design and embedded system software design respectively.

The company name, Calyptech, derives from Eucalypt – a hardy, fast growing species of tree indigenous to Australia, whose germination is accelerated when exposed to fire.

Despite the significant technology downturn starting in 2001, Calyptech has steadily grown since its inception.  This resilience has stemmed from skill in adaptation to a challenging business environment and an ability to identify and build on opportunity.  Calyptech was able to attract highly skilled engineers and managers who further broadened the skill-base and domain expertise.  In December 2002, Calyptech’s strong growth facilitated relocation to larger premises, allowing the establishment of a Research and Development laboratory and Production facilities.

Calyptech joined the VDSL Alliance, and the Xilinx AllianceCore in 2003, consolidating the leadership developed in the xDSL and digital design domains.

During 2003 Calyptech developed its first product solution to address the voice quality enhancement in wireless networks, where non-linear echo paths presented a difficult challenge for incumbent Echo Cancellation/Voice Quality equipment. The VQEST 300 Voice Quality Enhancement System was successfully deployed offering near landline voice quality on CDMA Wireless Local Loop installations across a huge geographic area of Australia.

In June 2004, Calyptech signed a manufacturer's representative agreement with IBM to represent IBM semiconductor products and services in Australia/New Zealand. This agreement allows Calyptech to provide a more comprehensive range of design services to Australian and New Zealand companies and draw on IBM's extensive technical portfolio.

In December 2004, Calyptech won the prestigious "Excellence in Technical Innovation" award from Telstra Corporation, recognising Calyptech's excellence among Telstra's estimated 12,000 suppliers and vendors, and acknowledging their continuing support for Telstra's business objectives.

In March 2005, Calyptech were listed in the Australian Business Review Weekly (BRW) as the top Techology Startup in Australia.

In 2007, Calyptech developed a ruggedised wireless terminal that allowed broadband and telephony services to be delivered to customers in rural and regional Australia.

Calyptech continues to deliver innovative solutions to our growing international customer base, and are committed to being at the forefront of technological innovation. Being at the leading edge of technology, and pushing those technologies to the absolute limit, while delivering complete outsource solutions for clients have been the key elements in Calyptech’s continued success.
